Manchester United is pleased to confirm that Tyrell Malacia has joined the club, signing a contract until June 2026, with the option to extend for a further year.

Tyrell Malacia said: “It’s an incredible feeling to have joined Manchester United. This is a new chapter for me, a new league with new team-mates and a tremendous manager Erik ten Hag leading us.

“I know from playing against his teams in the Eredivisie, the qualities that he has and what he demands of his players.

“Whilst I know that I am still young and will continue to develop, I can promise the United fans that I will leave everything on the pitch every time I pull on the red shirt.
I’ll always be thankful to Feyenoord for all they have given to me and my family.

“None of this would be possible if it wasn’t for them. Now I’m ready to focus on the future with United, and help my new club achieve success.”

John Murtough, Manchester United football director, said: “Tyrell is an exciting, dynamic young footballer with excellent experience for his age, including five seasons in the Eredivisie, a European final and full international honours for the Netherlands.

“We look forward to seeing him continue to develop under the guidance of Erik ten Hag and his coaching team in the years ahead.

Malacia joined Feyenoord’s youth system aged nine and progressed through the Dutch side's ranks over the years that followed.

STORY SO FAR

In December 2015, the left-back was awarded his first professional contract with the club before making his first mark on the senior team two years later.

The Dutchman's debut came on 6 December 2017, when he played the full 90 minutes of Feyenoord’s 2-1 win over Napoli in the Champions League, and exactly a week later, Tyrell made his Eredivisie bow, in a 1-1 draw with SC Heerenveen.

2018 was a good year for Malacia, as he was a part of the squad – albeit as an unused substitute – for both Feyenoord’s KNVB Cup final win over AZ Alkmaar and their Johann Cruyff Shield triumph against PSV.

The flying left-back’s first senior goal came in the calendar year too, notching in Feyenoord’s 5-3 victory at Heerenveen - a match in which former United striker Robin van Persie also scored for the away side.

This was the first of the defender's three strikes in the 2018/19 campaign, and he took his overall total for Feyenoord to four with a 3-2 away winner at SC Cambuur-Leeuwarden last term.

The 2021/22 season was Malacia’s best statistical season as a professional in terms of goals and assists. The left-back scored once and assisted five times, as Feyenoord reached the final of the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League.

Despite the Dutch side losing to Roma in the final, Malacia played 88 minutes against the Italian side, and was also named in the tournament's Team of the Season.
